More about Bell
Bell Mobility started in Toronto in 1986 as Bell Cellular and took the Bell Mobility name in 1993. It took over Aliant's wireless business in Atlantic Canada in July 2006, and in 2017 bought MTS in Manitoba, whose wireless customers moved to Bell in late 2018. Its head office is in Mississauga, Ontario, and it had 11.1 million subscribers in the second quarter of 2024.
Bell launched HSPA+ on November 4, 2009, LTE in Toronto on September 14, 2011, VoLTE in February 2016 and 5G in June 2020, and shut down CDMA on April 30, 2019. Phones on Bell use the APN pda.bell.ca. Bell uses inet.bell.ca as the default for mobile internet devices, not phones.
Virgin Plus, which Bell has owned outright since July 1, 2009, and Lucky Mobile, launched in December 2017, are Bell's own brands. Virgin Plus uses Bell's APN. Lucky Mobile has its own, connect. An older Bell brand, Solo Mobile, stopped taking new customers in 2012.
