More about Solo Mobile

Bell Mobility launched Solo in 2000 as Solo Prepaid, a low-cost brand sold at first only in Ontario and Quebec, with calls at 1¢ a minute on nights and weekends. It later reached British Columbia and Alberta, then was withdrawn for a time when Bell launched its own prepaid service.

Solo returned on August 1, 2005, as Solo Mobile, adding monthly plans and selling only one phone at first, the Sanyo 2300 flip phone. After Bell bought Virgin Mobile Canada in 2009, Solo became a lower priority, and its plans came to look much like Koodo's. It ran only on Bell's HSPA+ network and never had LTE or 5G.

Solo stopped taking new customers on May 17, 2012. On July 31, 2017, it ended its prepaid service and moved those customers to Bell's prepaid service. Existing monthly customers were allowed to stay on their plans, and its unsold phones went to Bell and Virgin Plus. Solo Mobile SIMs use Bell's APN, pda.bell.ca.
