More about Vodafone
Vodafone made the first cellular call in the UK on 1 January 1985. The network began as Racal Vodafone, part of Racal Electronics, which won one of the first two UK cellular licences in 1982, the other going to BT. Vodafone was demerged from Racal in 1991, and its 5G service launched on 3 July 2019.
On 31 May 2025 Vodafone's UK business merged with Three as VodafoneThree, with Vodafone owning 51%. Vodafone has agreed to buy out CK Hutchison's 49% stake, which needs regulatory approval. Vodafone SIMs keep their own settings, and Voxi and Lebara run on the network. Pay monthly and pay as you go SIMs use different APNs.
