Background
More about Three
Three launched on 3 March 2003 as the first commercial 3G network in the UK, built by Hutchison and owned by CK Hutchison Holdings. It was a standalone fourth network for more than two decades.
The Competition and Markets Authority approved the merger with Vodafone UK in December 2024, and VodafoneThree started on 31 May 2025. Vodafone has since agreed to buy out CK Hutchison's 49%, pending regulatory approval. Three still sells its own SIMs with its own APN, three.co.uk, and iD Mobile and Smarty run on its network.
