More about Virgin Media Ireland
Virgin Media launched Virgin Mobile in Ireland on Monday 5 October 2015, the same day UPC Ireland became Virgin Media. UPC had signed the deal with Three in May 2014, the month the European Commission cleared Three's purchase of O2 Ireland. The launch plan was €25 a month for unlimited calls, texts and data, free for three months to Virgin Media's broadband and TV customers.
Virgin Media launched without a range of handsets, selling SIMs to people who kept their own phones and numbers. It started on 3G with 4G planned for 2016.
Virgin SIMs carry their own network code, 272 15, and use the APN internet. Virgin Media doesn't support picture messages, 5G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi Calling or eSIM.
The APN, internet, is the same word old O2 Ireland SIMs use, which is why it turns up in so many phones' APN lists. The SIMs are told apart by network code, 272 15 for Virgin against 272 02 for O2, and only Virgin's has no MMS settings.
