More about Vi
Vi is the brand of Vodafone Idea, formed when Vodafone India and Idea Cellular merged on 31 August 2018. The merger was announced in March 2017 and approved by the National Company Law Tribunal the day before it completed, and the combined company had about 375 million subscribers. The two brands carried on side by side until 7 September 2020, when they became Vi.
In February 2023 the Government of India had Vodafone Idea convert the interest it owed into shares, which made the government its largest shareholder, and it raised its stake to 48.99% in March 2025. Vi launched 5G in Mumbai in March 2025.
Vi uses the APN www, and sends the settings by text if you send ALL to 199. internet was Idea's APN, and some phones still use it for SIMs from former Idea circles.
