More about BSNL
BSNL, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, was set up by the Government of India on 1 October 2000 and is headquartered in New Delhi. Its mobile service has run under the names CellOne and BSNL. Its subsidiary MTNL serves Delhi and Mumbai, and in October 2019 the government decided to merge the two companies' operations under BSNL.
BSNL started 4G in parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh in January 2019. Its national 4G network uses equipment made in India, with a core network developed by C-DOT and equipment from Tejas Networks and ITI, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched it on 27 September 2025, commissioning 97,500 towers. BSNL's eSIM went live across India on 1 October 2025, on Tata Communications' platform, and is set up by scanning a QR code.
BSNL uses two APNs, bsnlnet for data and bsnlmms for picture messages.
