More about Airtel
Airtel began in Delhi in 1995, when Sunil Mittal's Bharti group formed Bharti Cellular, and its mobile operations took the single Airtel name in 2003. Bharti Airtel is headquartered in New Delhi. It launched 4G LTE in Kolkata in April 2012, and on 6 October 2022 it launched 5G, which it calls Airtel 5G Plus, in eight cities, among them Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru. Customers with 5G phones used it on their existing plans, with no new SIM.
Airtel shut its 3G network in Kolkata in June 2019, keeping 2G there and moving the 3G spectrum to 4G, then did the same in Punjab in October 2019 and in Maharashtra, outside Mumbai, and Goa in December 2019. It agreed to buy Telenor's Indian business on 23 February 2017, and the consumer mobile business of Tata Teleservices became part of Airtel on 1 July 2019.
Airtel sends its settings by text, with two profiles, airtelgprs.com for data and airtelmms.com for picture messages.
