How to enter APN settings
Open Access Point Names
Go to
Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile network → Access Point Names. On some phones it's underSettings → Connections → Mobile networks.Add a new APN
Tap + (or the menu → New APN) and set APN to
3ireland.ie. Fill any other non-blank values from the table above and leave the rest as default.Save and select it
Save from the menu, then select the new Three Ireland APN and toggle Airplane Mode on for ten seconds so the change takes effect.
Open the APN screen
Tap
Settings → Mobile Service → Mobile Data Network. On some iPhones the menu is called Mobile Data. If you don't see this option, Three Ireland locks APN editing, so contact them or install a carrier profile.Enter the APN
Under Mobile Data, set APN to
3ireland.ie. Leave Username and Password blank unless the table above lists them.Save and restart data
Go back to apply the change, then toggle Airplane Mode on for ten seconds so the iPhone re-registers with Three Ireland.
Common issues
The values match but data won't connect. Check your SIM number. If it starts 8935302, the SIM came from O2 Ireland and needs the APN internet, not 3ireland.ie.
Picture messages won't send. Three's MMS proxy is a hostname, mms.3ireland.ie, on port 8799. Three's older help pages also list the address 217.171.129.2. Try it if the hostname fails.
Data stops abroad. Pick the network by hand in the phone's mobile network settings and reset the APN to default, rather than typing new values.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use 3ireland.ie or internet?
It depends on your SIM. A Three SIM, network code 272 05, uses 3ireland.ie. A SIM from the old O2 Ireland network, whose number starts 8935302 and whose code is 272 02, uses internet, with the MMSC http://mmsc.mms.o2.ie:8002 and the MMS proxy 62.40.32.40 on port 8080. The SIM number is printed on the card and shown on Android under About phone, SIM status.
What are Three Ireland's MMS settings?
MMS uses the same APN, 3ireland.ie. Set the MMSC to http://mms.um.3ireland.ie:10021/mmsc, the MMS proxy to mms.3ireland.ie and the MMS port to 8799.
Is Three Ireland the same as Three UK?
Both belong to CK Hutchison, but they're separate networks with separate settings. Three UK's APN is three.co.uk. On an Irish Three SIM, use 3ireland.ie.
Does Three Ireland support eSIM?
Yes. Three supports eSIM on iPhone. An eSIM line picks up its settings during activation.
Why won't my iPhone let me edit the APN?
Some carriers manage the iPhone APN through a hidden carrier profile, so the fields are locked or missing. That's normal. Resetting network settings re-pulls the profile and fixes most iPhone data problems without typing anything.
