Auto-provisioning
Many phones on An Post Mobile receive APN settings automatically when a SIM is inserted. Only enter these manually if your device shows no data connection or was purchased unlocked.

How to enter APN settings

  1. Open Access Point Names

    Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile network → Access Point Names. On some phones it's under Settings → Connections → Mobile networks.

  2. Add a new APN

    Tap + (or the menu → New APN) and set APN to isp.postfone.ie. Fill any other non-blank values from the table above and leave the rest as default.

  3. Save and select it

    Save from the menu, then select the new An Post Mobile APN and toggle Airplane Mode on for ten seconds so the change takes effect.

  1. Open the APN screen

    Tap Settings → Mobile Service → Mobile Data Network. On some iPhones the menu is called Mobile Data. If you don't see this option, An Post Mobile locks APN editing, so contact them or install a carrier profile.

  2. Enter the APN

    Under Mobile Data, set APN to isp.postfone.ie. Leave Username and Password blank unless the table above lists them.

  3. Save and restart data

    Go back to apply the change, then toggle Airplane Mode on for ten seconds so the iPhone re-registers with An Post Mobile.

Tip
After saving, toggle Airplane Mode on and off for 10 seconds. This forces the phone to re-register with the network and pick up the new APN.
Troubleshooting

Common issues

Data on the phone, but hotspot doesn't share it. On iPhone, the Personal Hotspot APN can still say live.vodafone.com. Change it to isp.postfone.ie.

An old Vodafone profile is selected. Delete the existing APNs before adding isp.postfone.ie.

Still no data. Check the spelling is isp, not ips. Then try each authentication type in turn, starting with PAP.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is it isp.postfone.ie or ips.postfone.ie?

isp.postfone.ie. Swapping the first two letters is a common typo, and the APN won't connect with it.

Can I use Vodafone's APN on an An Post SIM?

No. An Post Mobile runs on Vodafone's network, but its SIMs need isp.postfone.ie. If live.vodafone.com appears anywhere in your settings, replace it.

Can An Post send the settings instead?

Yes, on iPhone. An Post's iPhone settings page has a link that sends data settings to your number. Install them under General and the profile menu.

What about MMS?

An Post doesn't publish MMS values. The MMS and IMS profiles usually arrive by themselves once the SIM is registered.

Why won't my iPhone let me edit the APN?

Some carriers manage the iPhone APN through a hidden carrier profile, so the fields are locked or missing. That's normal. Resetting network settings re-pulls the profile and fixes most iPhone data problems without typing anything.
