How to enter APN settings
Open Access Point Names
Go to
Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile network → Access Point Names. On some phones it's underSettings → Connections → Mobile networks.Add a new APN
Tap + (or the menu → New APN) and set APN to
vzwinternet. Fill any other non-blank values from the table above and leave the rest as default.Save and select it
Save from the menu, then select the new Verizon APN and toggle Airplane Mode on for ten seconds so the change takes effect.
Open the APN screen
Tap
Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data Network. If you don't see this option, Verizon locks APN editing, so contact them or install a carrier profile.Enter the APN
Under Cellular Data, set APN to
vzwinternet. Leave Username and Password blank unless the table above lists them.Save and restart data
Go back to apply the change, then toggle Airplane Mode on for ten seconds so the iPhone re-registers with Verizon.
Common issues
Data works but MMS won't send. Check the MMSC, http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms, and leave the MMS proxy and port empty. Make sure mobile data is on, because some phones can't send picture messages over Wi-Fi alone.
Texts stopped after editing the APN list. Don't delete Verizon's other APNs. vzwims is required for text messaging, so removing it can stop texts while data still works.
An older phone won't connect at all. Verizon switched off its CDMA network on December 31, 2022. A phone that only supports CDMA can't connect any more, whatever the APN. You need a phone that supports LTE.
Frequently asked questions
Do I even need to enter Verizon APN settings manually?
Usually no. A Verizon SIM or eSIM provisions itself over the air, and most phones pull the right settings automatically. You only need to enter them by hand if data, picture messaging, or 5G stops working. That's often after a SIM swap, a factory reset, or moving the SIM into an unlocked or imported phone.
How do I know the settings worked?
Turn off Wi-Fi and open any website. If it loads, mobile data is working. To check MMS, send a photo to a friend and confirm it sends and that you can receive one back. Both usually start working within a minute or two of saving the APN, though a quick restart helps if they don't.
Why can't I edit APN settings on my iPhone?
On many Verizon iPhones the APN menu is hidden or locked, because the carrier manages it through a configuration profile instead. If you don't see an editable APN field, that's normal. A network settings reset (Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings) re-pulls Verizon's profile and fixes most problems without manual entry.
Does Verizon 5G need different APN settings?
No. The same vzwinternet APN carries 4G LTE and 5G. If you have a 5G-capable phone and plan, 5G turns on automatically wherever there's coverage. Use the 5G toggle in the table above to confirm there's nothing extra to enter.
These settings didn't fix my problem. What now?
Restart the phone first. It fixes more APN issues than people expect. If data still won't connect, reset network settings and let Verizon re-provision. If only picture messaging fails, double-check the MMSC URL and confirm mobile data is on, since MMS can't send over Wi-Fi alone on some phones. Still stuck?
