More about Freedom Mobile
Freedom Mobile launched as Wind Mobile on December 16, 2009, in Toronto, and in Calgary two days later. Shaw Communications bought it for about $1.6 billion in a deal that closed on March 1, 2016, and renamed it Freedom Mobile, announced on November 21, 2016.
When Rogers bought Shaw, Freedom was sold to Vidéotron's owner, Quebecor, for $2.85 billion, in a deal that closed on April 3, 2023. Freedom had about 2.29 million subscribers in late 2022. It launched 5G on July 24, 2023, and added US and Mexico roaming to all plans on July 25, 2024. Its head office is in Toronto.
Freedom uses one APN for data, internet.freedommobile.ca, and a second, mms.freedommobile.ca, for picture messages.
