More about Metro by T-Mobile
Metro by T-Mobile began as MetroPCS. Roger Linquist and Malcolm Lorang founded it in 1994 as General Wireless, and its service launched in 2002. MetroPCS merged with T-Mobile USA in a reverse merger that closed on May 1, 2013. T-Mobile announced the Metro by T-Mobile name on September 24, 2018, and the new name took over in early October.
MetroPCS ran its own CDMA network until June 21, 2015, when its customers moved to LTE. Metro now runs on T-Mobile, and its SIMs carry T-Mobile's network code, 310 260. Phones tell a Metro SIM apart by an ID stored on the SIM and load Metro's own APN, fast.metropcs.com, which kept the old name after the rebrand. Metro's head office is in Richardson, Texas.
