VoLTE (Voice over LTE) — Definition
Voice over LTE
VoLTE, or Voice over LTE, is technology that carries your phone calls over the 4G LTE data network instead of older 2G or 3G voice systems.
Calls sound clearer, connect faster, and let you use data and talk at the same time. As carriers shut down their old 3G networks, VoLTE has gone from a nice extra to a requirement for calls to work at all on many phones.
In practice
If your data works but calls won't connect, a phone without VoLTE enabled on a network that needs it is a common cause. The fix is usually a toggle in your phone's calling or mobile network settings. Our guide on VoLTE covers turning it on.
